SWITCH Bulbs Brighten New York and Chicago Displays
SWITCH Lighting featured at Pratt Gallery and Chicago Architecture Foundation Exhibitions
February 13, 2012 SAN JOSE, CA: SWITCH Lighting, the first company offering a beautifully designed LED bulb with true incandescent quality light, will have their SWITCH60 bulb displayed at two distinct exhibitions starting this month. On February 10th, the SWITCH60 can be viewed at the Pratt Gallery's "Bright Future: New Designs in Glass" exhibition. Starting on February 17th, the SWITCH60 will also be on display at the Chicago Architecture Foundation's "Loop Value: The HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? Shop" exhibition.
"Our unique cooling technology allows us to create form factors in design that are much better looking than any alternative" said Tracy Bilbrough, CEO of SWITCH Lighting. "We believe we have an LED bulb that stands out as a work of art as well as a world class functional product, and the Pratt Gallery and the Chicago Architecture Foundation have given us the perfect opportunity to show off its brilliant design and liquid cooling technology."
The SWITCH60 is the only LED light bulb that makes no compromise on light quality or in how the bulb can be used. SWITCH is the first manufacturer to announce a family of LED bulbs with 40, 60, 75 and 100 watt-equivalents that turn on instantly, last 25 times longer than incandescent bulbs, and still provide that same warm glow that people are used to in a conventional bulb. They can also be used in any orientation - just like an incandescent light bulb.
The SWITCH60 will be on display at the Pratt Gallery from February 10th to May 5th. The "Bright Future" exhibit features innovative designs in tableware, sculpture, and lighting that demonstrate new possibilities within the world of glass.
Starting on February 17th, the SWITCH60 will be exhibited at the Chicago Architecture Foundation's "Loop Value" exhibition. The display focuses on how people use energy, and how buying decisions dictate the environments we inhabit.

CHIEF ENGINEER AT SWITCH LIGHTING ANNOUNCES THE KEY TO LED BULB PERFORMANCE AT CONFERENCE
David Horn focuses on SWITCH's self-cooling solution during LEDs Conference
November 1, 2011 SAN JOSE, CA: David Horn, CTO of SWITCH Lighting, the first company with a true replacement to the incandescent light bulb, presented at LEDs 2011 Conference in San Diego on October 26th. His talk, “Improving LED Performance in High Lumen “A” Lamps,” focused on ways to improve upon the problems with LED bulbs currently on the market, such as issues with color, light distribution, orientation variance and temperature.
LEDs 2011: Bringing Light to Life was held at the Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa from October 24-26, 2011 in San Diego, California. The conference covered the latest technology, applications and end uses, lighting design and luminaires, as well as market expectations and analysis of the LED and lighting sectors. This year, hundreds of lighting professionals gathered at the conference, which boasted a sold-out exhibition hall with presentations from some of the industry's top lighting companies, including Acuity, Cree, OSRAM, and Philips.
“This is a great opportunity for SWITCH to show our thought leadership as bulb designers,” said David Horn, Chief Technology Officer of SWITCH Lighting. “SWITCH has recognized thermal cooling as the limiter for LED bulb performance and has focused on adapting technology to create an LED bulb that looks attractive and achieves superior brightness and color quality. Since our thermal solution efficiently cools the LEDs, we can overcome several shortcomings of the LED bulbs currently available. Right now, we are the only ones with this technology.”
SWITCH has designed the only LED bulb with a self-cooling environment inside and a gorgeous industrial design outside and was the first manufacturer to announce a family of LED bulbs with 40, 60, 75 and 100 watt-equivalents. With its stunning design and energy-saving benefits, the bulbs have generated significant consumer and commercial demand. SWITCH bulbs turn on instantly, they can be used in any orientation, and deliver a warm, natural light just like conventional light bulbs but they last 20 times longer.
SWITCH bulbs are also inspired by Cradle to Cradle principles. All parts and components can be reused, recycled, or reclaimed so there is very little chance any part will end up in landfill.
David Horn joined SWITCH as CTO in 2009, bringing a diverse knowledge base and skill set in strategic business planning, execution of complex multi-disciplined projects and constructive team leadership. With 30 years of experience in high technology operations development and management, Horn has led all SWITCH activities from product research and development, to operations including management planning and preparations for R&D, testing, validation, contract manufacturing and ultimate product commercialization for the advanced LED lamp solution.
Prior to SWITCH, Horn held technology development and executive management positions at JDSU, Big Bear Networks, Harmonic Lightwave, SDL and XMR. He holds a MS in Applied Sciences from UC Davis/Lawrence Livermore Labs and a BS in Physics from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo.

THE FIRST 100 WATT-EQUIVALENT LED BULB SHINES AT 2011 LIGHTFAIR
Switch Lighting unveils the first true 100 watt equivalent A19 LED replacement bulb to replace incandescent bulbs.
May 17, 2011 San Jose, CA: Switch Lighting, the only company with the closest alternative to incandescent-quality light, announced the first ever 100 watt-equivalent LED bulb. The bulb is being unveiled at the 2011 LIGHTFAIR International Trade Show in Philadelphia during May 17 19th. Using their “City of Light” technology, the bulb creates a self-cooling environment inside, allowing maximum brightness with fewer LEDs. This is the brightest LED replacement bulb available and Switch is the only company with this innovative technology.
“Nobody in the LED space can produce this incandescent-quality light. The brightest LED you can see on the shelf is a 60 watt-equivalent. We announced our 75 watt-equivalent last month, now we’re announcing the 100 watt equivalent,” said Boris Lipkin, CEO of Switch Lighting.
Switch will conduct live demonstrations of their 100W LED replacement bulb at their booth on the LIGHTFAIR trade show floor. They will also show their 75W and 60W equivalent bulbs. All of their bulbs offer incandescent quality light, are dimmable, and can be used in any direction.
“We will be showing a 100 watt equivalent A19 lamp that produces 1700 lumens in neutral whitethe same beautiful white color as halogen track lighting.” said Brett Sharenow, Switch Lighting’s Chief Strategy Officer. “We will offer a warm white version of the 100W equivalent bulb in mid- to late-2012.” added Sharenow.
The Switch bulb designs are inspired by the Cradle to Cradle principles. All parts and components can be reused, recycled, or reclaimed so there is very little chance any part will end up in landfill. Bill McDonough, co-author of Cradle to Cradle explains, “When the bulbs are returned, they could become part of a bicycle, or could be returned to the biosphere to become fertilizer.”
“With our unique self-cooling technology, we offer the most affordable, energy-efficient light bulb on the market that is nearly identical to the regular incandescent bulbs we’ve come to love.” says Brett Sharenow, Switch’s Chief Strategy Officer.

SWITCH LIGHTING INTRODUCES BRIGHTEST LED REPLACEMENT BULB
New company's self-cooling technology offers the best and brightest warm incandescent-quality light
April 19, 2011 San Jose, CA: Switch Lighting, the only company with the closest alternative to incandescent-quality light, announced today a brand new technology that produces the brightest warm light LED replacement bulb available. Using their “City of Light” technology, the bulb creates a self-cooling environment inside, allowing maximum brightness with fewer LEDs. With this technology, Switch Lighting is bringing to market the first true 75 watt equivalent warm white LED replacement bulb at an affordable price.
“The LED lighting market is being redefinedpeople want sustainable, energy-efficient light sources without a compromise in incandescent light quality or design,” says Boris Lipkin, CEO of Switch Lighting. “Switch bulbs can be used just like a regular bulbin all directions, in almost every light fixture and with most any dimmer,” added Mr. Lipkin.
Switch is designing their LED bulbs to meet Cradle to Cradle® principlescontinuously and cost-effectively recovering all materials from the used light bulbs and safely biodegrading or recycling them. “Components won’t necessarily be repurposed into another light bulb, but could be siphoned into the broader industrial cycle,” says William McDonough, who developed the Cradle to Cradle protocol with German chemist Michael Braungart. “The unique design of Switch bulbs signals the company’s intention to offer brilliant lighting as a service for humanity,” added McDonough.
Because of the unique cooling system, Switch light bulbs can be used in any orientation with no compromise to their 20,000 hour life (10-15 years). Based on a 75 watt-equivalent bulb used in a home for 5 hours a day, Switch has calculated energy savings of up to $140.00 per bulb over its lifetime. The Switch LED bulbs use 85% less energy than incandescent bulbs and unlike compact fluorescents, they do not contain mercury. The purchase price payback in energy cost savings is realized in about one year.
“With our unique self-cooling technology, we make the brightest warm white LED light bulb available. We offer the most affordable, energy-efficient light bulb on the market that is nearly identical to the regular incandescent bulbs we’ve come to love.” says Brett Sharenow, Switch’s Chief Strategy Officer.
With increased energy costs and governmental calls for energy saving measures, people are increasingly looking for solutions, but don’t want to give up aesthetics, including the instant-on and warm light of their regular bulbs. Switch’s “City of Light” offers the same look, feel and quality of light as an incandescent.
Switch Lighting is backed by VantagePoint Capital Partners, the leading global investor in energy innovation. Alan Salzman, CEO of VantagePoint Capital Partners says, "LEDs are about to revolutionize lighting and create an important new category of high-performing, clean lighting solutions. We are proud to be part of the significant contribution Switch is making into how energy is converted into light."
